Paris Paralympics 2024 India's medal tally reaches four with Manish Narwal' shooting success

 India's impressive performance continues at the Paris Paralympics. Shooter Manish Narwal secured a silver medal in the Men's 10m Air Pistol (SH1) event, adding to India's growing tally. Narwal, who had previously won gold at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, showcased his skill once again.

On the second day of the Paris Paralympics 2024, August 30 (Friday), India earned its fourth medal. Manish Narwal secured a silver in the Men's 10m Air Pistol (SH1) event. At the Tokyo Paralympics, he had clinched gold in the P4 Mixed 50m Pistol SH1 event.

Korean shooter Jong Jongdu won the gold medal with a score of 237.4 points, while Narwal finished with 234.9 points. China's Yang Chao took home the bronze with 214.3 points. The SH1 category in shooting includes athletes with impairments affecting their arms, lower torso, or legs, or those with limb deficiencies.

With this silver, India's medal count at the Paris Paralympics 2024 stands at four. Earlier, Preeti Pal won bronze in the Women's 100m Race (T35), while Avani Lekhara claimed gold and Mona Agarwal bronze in the Women's 10m Air Rifle (SH1) event.

Who is Manish Narwal?

22-year-old Manish Narwal initially aspired to be a footballer but didn't let his disability deter him from becoming an athlete. Following advice from his father and well-wishers, he switched to shooting in 2016, beginning his training in Faridabad, Haryana. Since then, Narwal has consistently excelled, winning numerous national and international competitions.

Originally from Sonipat, Manish and his family moved to Faridabad years ago. He won a gold and a bronze medal in the 10m and 50m events at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. He continued his stellar performance at the 2019 World Championships in Sydney, securing three bronze medals in various events.
