Farhan Akhtar will Portray Major Shaitan Singh Bhati in 120 Bahadur

Farhan Akhtar first gained fame as a director before making his acting debut. Although he has appeared in more films as an actor, his directorial work has also garnered a dedicated fan base. Recently, Farhan announced that he will take on a new role in Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai’s 120 Bahadur, putting his directorial projects Jee Le Zaraa and Don 3 on hold once again.

Farhan shared the news on Instagram on Wednesday, revealing posters of 120 Bahadur along with a brief note. The film will depict the life of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati and the soldiers of Charlie Company, 13 Kumaon Regiment, who fought in the Battle of Rezang La during the 1962 Indo-China war. Farhan’s caption read, “What they accomplished will never be forgotten.”

Support for Farhan’s new project came from various quarters: his Don 3 co-star Ranveer Singh left supportive emojis in the comments, Zoya Akhtar also commented with emojis, and Farhan’s wife, Shibani Dandekar, expressed her excitement with, “🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 cannot wait for this one ❤️ good luck to the entire team 🤗”

Previously, Farhan had announced Jee Le Zaraa in 2021, featuring Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, and Katrina Kaif. Fans were thrilled at the prospect of a film about female friendship directed by the visionary behind Dil Chahta Hai. However, updates on the project have been scarce, and Zoya Akhtar recently mentioned on Expresso in Mumbai that while the film is still in progress, aligning the cast and director’s schedules remains a challenge.

Farhan also announced Don 3 with Ranveer Singh in the lead role in August 2023. While filming has yet to start and the female lead is still to be announced, it seems that Jee Le Zaraa and Don 3 may be delayed with the new commitment to 120 Bahadur.

Who Was Major Shaitan Singh Bhati?

Major Shaitan Singh Bhati commanded the ‘C’ Company of the 13 Kumaon Regiment during the Battle of Rezang La in the 1962 Indo-China war. Stationed at a height of about 16,000 feet in the Chusul sector, he and his troops faced a heavy Chinese artillery attack on November 18, 1962. Major Bhati moved between posts to bolster his men’s morale, continuing to encourage them even after being seriously injured. When he was mortally wounded, he ordered his men to continue fighting to save their lives. He was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his bravery.
