Shah Rukh Khan Bought His First House in Mumbai with Full Advance Payment

Shah Rukh Khan, now the owner of the iconic Mannat in Mumbai, was still on his journey to stardom when he purchased his first house in the city. In a recent video, actor Mukesh Khanna, who starred alongside Shah Rukh in the 1995 film Guddu, shared an interesting anecdote about how Shah Rukh managed to buy his first home during the film's production.

Mukesh Khanna, who portrayed Shah Rukh’s father in Guddu, discussed the incident on his YouTube channel, Bheeshm International. He described Shah Rukh as an "enterprising actor" who showed great respect toward senior actors. At that time, Khanna was a more established star, having played a significant role in Mahabharat, while Shah Rukh was still awaiting his major breakthrough. Khanna fondly recalled how Shah Rukh held him in high regard during those days.

Khanna then shared the story of how Shah Rukh acquired his first house. He revealed that during the filming of Guddu, Shah Rukh approached the producer, Prem Lalwani, with a request to be paid in advance so that he could buy a house. In those days, houses could be purchased for around Rs 34-35 lakh. Shah Rukh’s first home was bought with the money he earned from Guddu. Lalwani, in a generous gesture, agreed to pay Shah Rukh in full before the film was completed. Shah Rukh would later express his gratitude, saying, "I have a house because of this film."

Eventually, Shah Rukh went on to purchase Mannat, his famous residence in Bandra. Reflecting on the process of acquiring and renovating Mannat at his wife Gauri Khan’s book launch, Shah Rukh shared, "When we bought the house we live in now, it was beyond our means. We had to rebuild it as it was in a dilapidated state, and then struggled to furnish it. We couldn’t afford the charges of a designer we consulted, so I suggested to Gauri to take charge as the designer of the house."

Looking ahead, Shah Rukh Khan is set to appear in Sujoy Ghosh’s upcoming film King, where he will share the screen with his daughter Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan.
