BENGALURU: From the soulful Kaisi Paheli Zindagani for Rekha to the electrifying Dhoom Machale for Esha Deol that defined a generation’s party playlists, acclaimed singer Sunidhi Chauhan has held her place as a musical icon since her breakthrough in the late ’90s.
Renowned for her timeless hits and dynamic stage presence, Chauhan dazzled audiences in Bengaluru over the weekend. Dressed in a shimmering, black-striped outfit, she captivated the crowd with her powerful voice and nostalgic, chart-topping numbers.
The concert was part of the 10th-anniversary celebration of Alive India in Concert, an event aimed at supporting a Thalassemia-free India in partnership with Rotary, as well as providing a platform for underprivileged musicians through the Roti, Kapda, Makaan Aur Rozgaar initiative. “This concert was special because it was my first ticketed show in Bengaluru,” Chauhan shared. “The last time I performed here was years ago.”
Recently, Chauhan teamed up with fellow music star Shreya Ghoshal for Chhaila, a collaboration she calls her "favorite in recent years." Known for surprising fans with unexpected choices, she recently performed the Ben 10 theme song at IIT Roorkee. “I give my 300 percent to anything I do, and that’s exactly what I wanted to bring to my Bengaluru fans,” she said. Her setlist included iconic hits like Swing and Parda.
Chauhan spoke fondly of the Bengaluru audience, appreciating their enthusiasm and musical openness. “They have a great ear and embrace every genre, which is why I’m starting this tour here,” she noted. “Their encouragement is genuine, making it a perfect place to kick off something new.” She also expressed her love for Bengaluru’s culinary scene, mentioning her fondness for idli and dosas.
Commenting on the rise of technology in music, Chauhan shared her perspective: “It’s fine to use AI for fun... We’ve had autotune for a while, but AI could never replace the human voice.”
Following her ongoing I Am Home tour, Chauhan is set to perform in London next month for The Seeker, a musical adaptation of Hermann Hesse’s Siddhartha. Playing Kamala, she will join music legends like Pete Townshend in this powerful retelling of a spiritual classic about self-discovery during the time of Gautama Buddha.
