ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024: Tournament Structure, India's Lineup

 The much-anticipated ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to be held across the USA and the Caribbean, featuring 20 teams competing at three venues in the United States and six in the Caribbean.


Image Source: India Today Kicking off in the United States, the tournament will witness ten teams playing 16 matches in Lauderhill, Dallas, and New York. Among the highly anticipated fixtures is the India-Pakistan clash on June 9 in Long Island, New York. The US leg will span over 29 days of thrilling action.

Transitioning to the Caribbean, 41 matches will unfold across six islands, with the grand finale set for June 29 in Barbados. The Caribbean leg commences on June 1 with the USA facing Canada and the West Indies taking on Papua New Guinea.

The tournament adopts a format with four groups, each comprising five teams. The top two teams from each group progress to the Super Eight stage, leading to the knockout semi-finals and the ultimate showdown.

In Ahmedabad, the BCCI revealed India's squad for the ICC T20 World Cup following discussions between secretary Jay Shah and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Rohit Sharma will lead the 15-member squad, with Rishabh Pant as the primary wicketkeeper-batsman, and Sanju Samson also securing a spot. Hardik Pandya assumes the role of vice-captain.

Alongside vice-captain Hardik, the squad features all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube. Noteworthy inclusions are three spinners—Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and the returning leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Rinku Singh's inclusion as a reserve adds an unexpected twist, alongside opening batsman Shubman Gill, left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed, and fast bowler Avesh Khan.

The team boasts three specialist fast bowlers: Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj.

India finds itself in Group A alongside co-hosts USA and Canada, as well as Ireland and Pakistan.
